Brush Clearing Around Virginia
Brush clearing in Virginia is rarely about one big tree. It is about a thousand small stems. Hazel fills the shade under the birch. Alder and willow crowd any wet corner. Popple suckers march in from the edge of the woods and take a lawn a little more each summer. Left alone for a few seasons, the yard shrinks and the back of the lot disappears.
We take that growth down with one tracked machine and a mulching head. Each stem is shredded right where it stands, and the chips land on the ground as a mat. There is no pile at the curb and no trailer run to the brush site. Calvin walks the property with you first and flags the spruce, pine and birch you want to keep. The brush around them goes, and they stay.
Virginia sits on the Mesabi Range in St. Louis County, at the meeting of US 53, US 169 and Highway 135. That means a lot of the brush calls here come from places people see every day. A shop lot with a grown in back half. A rental house where the yard has turned to thicket. A wooded parcel at the edge of town that a family wants to use again. Our brush and underbrush clearing service handles all of them the same way: cut, grind, leave the mulch, done.

Brush Clearing in Virginia: What to Know
Brush that hides a property
Brush costs owners more than looks. It hides drainage problems, rotten outbuildings and the real edge of the lot. It gives mice and ticks a home next to the house. On a rental or a lot for sale, it makes the place look neglected before anyone steps out of the car. Clearing the understory lets you, a buyer or a tenant see what is actually there.
If the brush runs along a highway frontage or a city street, keep the job on your side of the line. Road ditches belong to the road authority. Calvin will ask where your line sits when he walks the land, and we clear to it.
What comes back, and how to keep it down
Popple and hazel are stubborn. Their roots stay alive after the tops are ground, and some will send up new shoots the next spring. That is normal, not a failed job. The mulch mat slows them, and the shoots are soft and easy to cut. A mower, a hand cutter or a light second pass keeps the ground open, and each round is smaller than the one before.
Our guide do trees grow back after forestry mulching explains what to expect season by season.
Yards near Silver Lake and Bailey Lake
Virginia has water right in town. Silver Lake and Bailey Lake both sit inside the city, and some yards slope toward a shoreline or a wet low spot. Brush near water holds the bank, so some of it should stay. Shoreland and wetland rules can also limit what comes out. For lots inside city limits, ask the City of Virginia first. Outside the city, St. Louis County Planning & Zoning or the Minnesota DNR can tell you what is allowed. Once you know, we clear to match.
Brush jobs around the east Range
We take brush work in Virginia and in the towns around it, from Mountain Iron and Eveleth to Gilbert and the country north toward Britt. The Virginia page covers trails, wooded acreage and our wider forestry mulching work in the area. This page is only about getting rid of the brush. We work all year, and winter is a fine time to clear a yard you cannot get into during the leafy months.

Virginia Brush Clearing Questions
Not seeing yours? Call or text (218) 461-7376 and ask Calvin, or read the common questions.
What is the quickest way to get rid of hazel brush in a Virginia yard?
Grind it standing. Hazel grows in dense clumps that take forever to cut and drag by hand. A mulching head turns the whole clump into chips in one pass. Expect some sprouts next year and keep them cut while they are small.
Can you clear brush behind a business on US 53 in Virginia?
Yes, on your property. We clear the back lot, the edges and any sight lines you need, and keep to your side of the highway ditch. Calvin walks the lot with you so the line is clear before work starts.
What makes brush clearing cost more on one Virginia lot than another?
Stem density, stem size, how much ground you want opened and how hard it is to get the machine in. Wet spots, rock and lots of trees to work around slow the pace. Calvin gives a free estimate after he sees it. Call or text (218) 461-7376.
Will you leave the trees I want to keep in my Virginia yard?
Yes. Clearing is selective. Flag the spruce, pine, birch or maple you like, or point them out on the walk-through. The machine works close around them and takes only the brush and saplings crowding them.
