Forestry Mulching InSt. Louis County, MN
From Duluth to the Iron Range and up to Ely, we clear brush, lots, trails and hunting land across St. Louis County with one mulching machine.
Land Clearing Across St. Louis County
St. Louis County is huge, and the land changes from one end to the other. Around Duluth, Hermantown and Proctor it is clay, rock and wooded suburban acreage. The middle of the county is flat farm and bog country along the St. Louis and Cloquet rivers. The Iron Range runs across the north with its mine towns, second-growth woods and cabin lakes. Past that, toward Ely, it is bedrock and pine. Forestry mulching in St. Louis County has to adapt to all of it. The method stays the same. A tracked loader and a mulching head, grinding brush and small trees in place. See forestry mulching for the details.
The jobs follow the country. Near Duluth it is mostly lot and site clearing, backyard acreage and fence lines between neighbors. In the farm townships it is fields going back to popple and alder, plus trails and fencerows. On the Range it is cabin lots, inherited parcels and hunting forties that have not been touched in a generation. Up north it is tight lake lots on rock. What ties them together is that owners want the brush gone and the good trees left. They also want it done without a burn permit, a pile or a parade of trucks.
There is a great deal of public and company land in this county, so know your lines before clearing. State forest, county tax-forfeit land and mining property often border private parcels. Lakes and rivers bring shoreland rules, and the county planning office or the DNR can tell you what applies. Inside those limits we can do a lot. Shooting lanes and food plot openings, trails, driveways, building sites and reclaimed fields. We work every month of the year. Our service area page lists each town we cover.

St. Louis County Questions
Do you cover all of St. Louis County or just the Duluth area?
All of it. We take jobs in the Duluth area, the rural townships, the Iron Range cities and the lake country up toward Ely, Tower and Cook. The county is big, so we plan trips carefully, but no part of it is off the list. Call (218) 461-7376 with your location.
Do I need a permit to clear land in St. Louis County?
It depends on where the land is. Upland brush well away from water is usually the simplest case. Near lakes, rivers and wetlands, and inside some cities, rules can limit what you remove. We are not the permitting authority. Check with St. Louis County planning, your city, or the DNR, and we will work within what they tell you.
What drives the cost of forestry mulching in St. Louis County?
Four things mostly. How dense the growth is, how large the stems are, what the ground is like, and how easy it is to reach. Rock, slope and wet soil all slow a machine. We do not publish rates because every site is different. The walk-through and estimate are free. More on our cost page.
