Lot Clearing Around Two Harbors
Lot clearing in Two Harbors usually means a house or cabin site in thick North Shore woods. Spruce, birch, cedar and balsam grow tight, and much of the balsam is dead or dying. Before a builder can stake anything, the site has to open up. We clear the footprint, the driveway and room to work, and grind it all into mulch right there.
Two Harbors takes its name from Agate Bay and Burlington Bay, and the land climbs quickly from both. Many building lots sit up the hill from town, along Highway 61, or north on Lake County Highway 2. Each has its own mix of slope, rock and wet spots. Calvin walks your lot first and plans the clearing around what he finds.
Our lot clearing is selective. The healthy spruce, pine, cedar and birch you choose stay standing to frame the house and hold the soil. The dead fir and brush around them go, which also cuts the fuel near your new building.

What the Job Covers
- House or cabin footprint opened
- Driveway corridor up from the road
- Dead balsam removed from the building area
- Work room for the builder and septic installer
- Healthy trees flagged and kept
- Mulch left to protect bare clay
Lot Clearing in Two Harbors: What to Know
North Shore lots and lake rules
Lots near Lake Superior or the rivers and creeks that feed it fall under shoreland rules. Bluffs and steep slopes can add more. Lake County planning and zoning is the office to call, and the DNR handles public waters. Get your answer before you plan the house, so the clearing matches what the county allows.
Our shoreland clearing guide covers the questions to ask.
Clearing the drive and site in the right order
Driveways come first on most North Shore lots, since the machine and every truck after it need a way in. Then the building area. Then any extra room for parking or a garage. Doing it in that order keeps the rest of the lot untouched.
We handle the brush and trees. Stump pulling, rock work and pad building are another contractor's job. Calvin can talk that through with you on site.
Getting a Two Harbors lot ready to sell
Buyers want to see where a house would go and what it would look at. A lot buried in dead balsam and alder shows neither. We open an entry and the likely house site and keep the trees that sell it. For our other work around town, see the Two Harbors page.

Two Harbors Lot Clearing Questions
Not seeing yours? Call or text (218) 461-7376 and ask Calvin, or read the common questions.
Can you clear a building lot on a slope above Two Harbors?
Often, yes. The machine runs on tracks and handles a fair amount of slope. Very steep ground near a bluff may be off limits for safety or by rule. Calvin looks at it on the walk-through and tells you plainly.
Should I remove dead balsam when I clear my North Shore building site?
Inside the building area, yes, since it all has to go anyway. Around the house, dead fir is dry fuel and worth thinning out. We grind it on site with the brush, so there are no dry piles left near your new walls.
What does it cost to clear a cabin lot near Two Harbors?
It depends on the opening you need, how much dead fir and brush is on it, the slope and the access. A long, steep driveway takes more time than a short flat one. Calvin gives a free estimate after seeing the lot. Call or text (218) 461-7376.
Can you clear my lot near Gooseberry Falls in the winter?
Yes, as long as we can reach it. Winter suits clay ground up the shore because frozen soil carries the machine. The road to your lot has to be plowed far enough to unload the trailer. Let us know if it is not kept open.
