Clearing Land Around Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids is lake and timber country. The Mississippi runs through town, Pokegama Lake spreads out to the south, and smaller lakes are scattered in every direction. The soil runs sandier here than on the Range, and it grows red pine, jack pine, popple and oak with hazel thick underneath. Land clearing in Grand Rapids is often about that hazel and the young pine and popple crowding in with it. Hazel brush is easy work for a mulching head. We cover the whole of Itasca County with our land clearing service.
Lake homes drive a lot of the building in this area. New owners buy a wooded lot near Pokegama or one of the lakes out toward Cohasset and need it opened for a house, a shop and a driveway. We do the brush and small-tree part of that with lot and site clearing, and we work around the pines you want framing the place. Existing owners have a different reason to call. Their lot has grown in until the yard is half the size it was. Mulching gives it back.

What We Clear In Grand Rapids
Away from the lakes it is hunting land and tree farms. Deer and grouse hunters around Grand Rapids want walking trails through young popple, openings for clover, and lanes out from the stand. All of that falls under hunting land clearing. Pine plantation owners need access lanes and the brush knocked down between rows. On sandy ground the machine can work in most weather, which makes scheduling easier than on clay. The mulch matters more here too, because bare sand dries out and blows.
- Wooded lake lots for new homes
- Hazel brush under pine and oak
- Grouse and deer walking trails

Grand Rapids Questions
Is Grand Rapids in your service area?
Yes. Itasca County is one of the six counties we cover, and Grand Rapids is the center of it. We take lake lot, acreage and hunting land jobs there. Reach Calvin by call or text at (218) 461-7376 to set up a free walk-through of your property.
Can you clear hazel brush under my pines near Grand Rapids?
Yes, and it is a good use of the machine. We run between the trunks, grind the hazel, dead limbs and small balsam, and leave the pines standing with open ground under them. Hazel does resprout from the roots, so plan on mowing or a second pass down the road to hold it.
Does sandy soil in Itasca County change how you clear?
A little. Sand drains fast, so we can usually work soon after rain without rutting. It also erodes and dries out when left bare. Mulching helps there because the chips stay on the surface as cover. On slopes near a lake we are careful to leave that layer intact.
