Forestry Mulching InEsko, MN
Esko is farm country turned homesites. We reclaim old fields, clear building lots and clean up fence lines with one mulching machine.
Clearing Land Around Esko
Esko grew up as a farming community, and you can still read that in the land. Hayfields, old barns and long straight property lines run through Thomson Township. Plenty of those fields are still cut. Plenty more have been left alone long enough that willow and popple are taking them. Forestry mulching in Esko is often about that in-between ground, the pasture that is half brush and half grass. A mulcher clears it without pulling up sod or leaving ruts full of roots. Read more about field reclamation if that sounds like your back forty.
The second thing happening here is building. Esko draws families who want a few acres within easy reach of Duluth or Cloquet, so farm parcels keep getting divided into homesites. A wooded or brushed-in parcel needs to be opened before anyone can plan a house, a well and a drainfield. We do that first stage of lot clearing. You mark the trees worth saving. We take the rest down to mulch. The builder gets a site he can see and measure, and you keep your shade and your windbreak.

What We Clear In Esko
Creek bottoms and drainages cut through this part of Carlton County, and the Midway River winds through Esko itself. Brush is heaviest along that low ground. We can clean up to the edge of it, but stream banks and wet areas may carry rules, so ask the county before clearing near water. Up on the fields, line fences are a steady need. Old wire buried in a brushy fencerow is hard on equipment, so point it out. Our fence line clearing opens a clean strip for new posts.
- Pasture half gone to brush
- Homesites on divided farmland
- Brushy fencerows with old wire
- Windbreak and yard edges
- Trails along field borders

Esko Questions
Can you bring back an old hayfield in Esko without burning?
Yes. The mulching head shreds the brush and saplings and spreads the chips over the field as it goes. Nothing is piled and nothing is burned. After that, regular mowing keeps it open. Heavier regrowth from popple roots is normal the first season, and a brush mower handles it.
I am buying acreage in Esko to build on. When should I call?
Call once you have access to the land and know roughly where you want the house. Early clearing helps your builder and septic designer see the site. Bring any survey or site sketch to the walk-through. Calvin will look at the trees with you and you decide together what stays.
My Esko fencerow is full of old wire. Is that a problem?
It is common on former farm ground in Carlton County. Wire, posts and field stone hide in fencerows and can damage the mulching head. It is not a deal breaker. Tell us where the old lines ran, and we will work slowly through those stretches or pull what wire we can see first.
