Land Clearing Across Itasca County

Itasca County is lakes and timber from one end to the other. Grand Rapids sits near the south edge on the Mississippi, with Pokegama Lake beside it. The west end of the Iron Range reaches in through Coleraine, Bovey and Nashwauk. North of that it is forest, resorts and small towns like Bigfork. Land clearing in Itasca County usually happens on lake property, on wooded acreage near Grand Rapids, or on hunting land farther out. Soils lean sandy and the woods are full of pine, popple, birch and hazel. That is good ground for land clearing with a mulcher.

Lake property owners want the same few things. A driveway that a truck and boat trailer can get down. A yard with some sun. Space for a garage. A view of the water that does not break the shoreland rules. We handle the clearing side of those with lot and site clearing and brush and underbrush clearing, and we work around the big pines that make a lake lot worth having. For anything close to shore, Itasca County's zoning office or the DNR sets the limits. We clear to whatever they allow.

This is also grouse country and deer country. Young popple stands are thick, and walking trails through them are one of the most useful things a hunter can add to a property. We cut them narrow and winding or wide and straight, your choice. Openings and lanes go in at the same time under hunting land clearing. A good deal of forest here is public or industrial, so private lines should be marked before work starts. We travel throughout the county and work year round. Look at the service area page, or just call and tell us where the land is.

Questions

Itasca County Questions

Do you work outside Grand Rapids in the rest of Itasca County?

Yes. Cohasset, Deer River, Coleraine, Bovey, Nashwauk, Keewatin and the lake country north toward Bigfork are all covered. Itasca is the western edge of our service area. Remote lake lots and hunting land are welcome as long as we can get a truck and trailer reasonably close.

Can you clear a lake lot in Itasca County and keep the big pines?

Yes. Keeping mature red and white pine is the normal request on lake lots here. We mulch the brush, balsam and small popple under and between them and stay off the root zones as much as we can. Tell us if there are young pines you also want kept.

How do I get a clearing estimate in Itasca County?
