Land Clearing in Silver Bay

Clearing Land Around Silver Bay

Silver Bay sits on high rock above Lake Superior, and the country behind it is some of the roughest on the shore. Ridges, cliffs and river valleys run back toward Finland, with Tettegouche State Park just up the highway. Private parcels are scattered through all of it. Land clearing in Silver Bay means working with that terrain instead of against it. We pick the benches and flats where a machine can run, clear those well, and leave the steep faces in trees. The method is forestry mulching, so no soil gets turned over on a hillside.

Many people who own land here bought it to get away. They want a cabin spot, a place to park, and a path to wherever the view or the creek is. They do not want it to look cleared. That suits selective work. We take out the alder, the balsam whips and the blowdown, and leave spruce, cedar, birch and maple. Trails are the other big request. Our trails and access service cuts walking, ATV and snowmobile-width routes that follow the ground and stay off the wet spots.

Typical Jobs

What We Clear In Silver Bay

Inland around Finland, Lax Lake and Isabella there is more elbow room. Old homesteads, hunting camps and wooded forties sit along the county roads. Camp owners want the yard pushed back from the buildings and the road in kept open. Hunters want lanes. Both are jobs we take on across Lake County. See hunting land clearing for lanes and openings. Snow comes early and stays late up here, and we keep working through it. Trails cut in the snow are ready to use as soon as spring dries out.

Questions

Silver Bay Questions

Is Silver Bay too far up the shore for you?

No. Lake County is part of our service area, and that includes Silver Bay, Beaver Bay and the Finland country. We plan shore jobs so the walk-through and the work are each one organized trip. Text photos and a location to (218) 461-7376 to get started.

Can a mulcher handle the steep, rocky land near Silver Bay?

Parts of it. Tracks grip well on moderate slopes and rocky benches. Cliffs, ledges and very steep sidehills are not safe for any machine, and we will not pretend otherwise. On most parcels there is more workable ground than the owner expects. Calvin sorts that out on foot before quoting.

Can you clean up storm blowdown on my Lake County land?

We can mulch the smaller blown-down trees, tops and broken brush, which is most of the tangle. Big trunks lying on the ground are slow going for a mulching head, so we may cut around them or leave them for firewood. Tell us what the storm left and we will say what makes sense.
